Trauma Therapy
Trauma is any event or upsetting incident that was experienced by the individual as life threatening and affected his/her physical or psychological wellbeing. Trauma is caused by the result of extraordinary stressful situation or events that obstruct the sense of security. It is noted in men after catastrophic wars, women with history of sexual and/or physical abuse. An individual can experience trauma after an auto accident and any life-threatening illness or a condition that could be disabling. Thus, any event that was unexpected and the individual could not prevent it from happening. It could be that the event was not particularly terrible, but its effect on the individual was stressful, traumatic, or even embarrassing.
A list of potentially traumatic events, include combat, sexual and physical assault, robbery, being kidnapped, being taken hostage, terrorist attacks, torture, disasters, severe automobile accidents, and life-threatening illnesses, as well as witnessing death or serious injury by violent assault, accidents, war, or disaster. Childhood sexual abuse is included even if it does not involve threatened or actual violence or injury.
Trauma therapy can help individual in reducing or eliminating intrusive, avoidant, and arousal symptoms without the use of medication. Individual can learn to manage their symptoms of hallucinations and suicidal urges that come with trauma on their own.
